Why Epistemic Institutionalism?

This project has just started, but the idea is to write a series of essay defining and defending an institutionalist approach to the epistemic questions raised by the rapid adoption of AI and other digital technologies.

A more nuanced definition of Epistemic Institutionalism will be fleshed out in forthcoming essays. The basic argument is that existing civil institutions should play a bigger role helping discover and implement combinations of norms and digital tools that advance human flourishing. (I think these institutions can also play a role in helping us figure out what “human flourishing actually means.) Examples of civil institutions include universities, churches, unions, and other institutions that support epistemic communities.

Right now, it’s just me (Will Tracy) putting this together, but I would be keen to publish other folks thoughts on Epistemic Institutionalism as well. Drop me a note if you have short piece you are interested in sharing here.
